The Austin Families Genealogical Society

 For New Members…

For AFGS members who are just starting to explore their Austin-Austen roots, the best first step is to visit the AFGS Austin-Austen Research Center (via the Research link above). If you cannot locate your Austin-Austen line there, then you will want to submit one or more Queries to the Society's staff (via the Queries link above). By sharing what you already know about your ancestors, you enable our staff to research the AFGS computer files and AFGS Library to try and locate more about your Austin-Austen line. Searches often succeed, but not always. Queries which cannot be answered are published in the Society newsletter, the Austin Families Register (formerly Austins of America), which is published in January, May & September and distributed to many State Libraries, to major genealogical and historical societies around the United States, and to AFGS Members in several countries. Query responses are often received from newsletter readers. Even when Queries cannot be fully answered, the AFGS staff can often put querists in contact with others researching the same or a related Austin-Austen line. New information is always coming into AFGS and new Austin-Austen genealogists are discovering our web site daily, so some queries still get responses several years after they were submitted. One query was answered eleven years after it was first published!
