• 409 pages of genealogical data on approximately 1500 individuals (about 10% of these have the Austen or Austin surname), all are putative descendants of Mary Oliver and Robert Auston, who was baptised in 1659 in Tenterden, Kent.

• The book contains a number of photographs of Austins and others.

• 14-page name index, where individuals are alphabetically arranged.

• Hardcovered, but not stitched for permanence (the glued edge binding is fragile: one page fell out upon the Reviewer's first perusal of the book)

As its title suggests, this is the work of a dedicated amateur genealogist, who put a great deal of time and effort into creating this book.  The book itself is disappointing because it provides no specific references for any of its information on individuals and families.  Unnumbered sources listed before each generation are never referred to. For example, the 9th generation has 17 sources (mostly secondary) covering the next 103 pages of the book, but these sources are never referenced. While the book is well indexed and may provide some useful directions for further research, readers should not expect to document their Austin lines based upon the sources mentioned in this book.
