Austins of America - Volume 1

The first ten years of the Austins of America newsletters are now available in a hardcover book. Volume 1 is filled with informative articles and data based on the research of hundreds of members of the Austins of America Genealogical Society, the largest group of Austin family researchers in the United States. This highly useful reference book for all Austin family genealogists contains the newsletter pages 1 to 310, plus a comprehensive index with over 18,000 name references and over 4000 place references. John D. Beatty, gathering material for the prestigious Fred J. Reynolds Historical Genealogy Collection at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana, wrote to Austins of America:

"We have been receiving your excellent publication, Austins of America, since 1982. Thank you for considering to include us on your mailing list. I personally consider it to be one of the better family periodicals we receive."

VOLUME 1 has mainly Austin lines and data from throughout the United States, but also has many important Austin records from Canada, Barbados, and England. Hundreds of Austin immigrants and many Austin lines appear in the book, including records with variant spellings such as ASTEN, ASTENS, ASTIN, AUSTAIN, ASTON, AUSTEN, AWSTEN, OISTINE, OISTIN, OISTINS, OSTEEN, OSTEN and OSTIN. All types of Austin historical and genealogical data are found in VOLUME 1:

H Austin Birth Records H Austin Journals & Letters H Austin Marriage Records
H Austin Wills and Deeds H Austin Death Records H Austin Family Genealogies
H Austin Tax Records H Austin Cemetery Records H Austin Land Grants
H Austin Probate Records H Austin Census Records H Austin Church Records
H Austin Military Pensions H Austin Book Reviews

VOLUME 1 also includes hundreds of informative queries submitted by members and non-members researching their Austin roots. The current addresses of those submitting queries are maintained in the computerized Austins of America files, so you can still respond to queries via Austins of America even though the querist may have moved several times since his or her query was published!

The Austins in the Federal Census of 1850 series being compiled by members of the Austins of America Genealogy Society is especially useful to those seeking their Austin roots, since 1850 was the first census listing the names and ages of all individuals, and often their occupations. Austins families and individuals (including Austin children living with other families) in ALABAMA, CALIFORNIA, KENTUCKY, MISSISSIPPI, TENNESSEE, VERMONT and WISCONSIN appear in this Volume 1. Those Austins who were residing in NEW YORK, VIRGINIA, INDIANA, OHIO, NEW JERSEY, and MICHIGAN will appear in VOLUME 2 and other states in subsequent volumes of Austins of America. VOLUME 1 also includes over one hundred fine photographs of Austin families and individuals dating from rare Civil War tintypes to contemporary portraits.
